Michael Guy

Painter Warwick, RI & Provincetown, MA

A Colorado native who graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1975 in painting, Mr. Guy has been connected to Trinity Repertory Company in Providence, RI for his entire professional career in a variety of capacities. The greater part of that has been as the theater’s graphic designer, from 1980 to the present, during which he has designed over 250 posters for the theater. He was a scenic artist for Trinity Rep from 1978 to 1982 and created a mural in the theater’s lobby in 1983.

Mr. Guy is also a painter who has exhibited in Rhode Island, Provincetown, New York City and Arizona, as well as a furniture-maker whose whimsical tables and chairs have been shown in galleries and exhibitions in Rhode Island, New York City, Baltimore and San Francisco. He is presently represented by the Lyman-Eyer Gallery online and by Woodman/Shimko in Provincetown, MA.

Mr. Guy’s contributions to the arts have not been limited to the two dimensional realm. He also created costumes and performed (not necessarily to great acclaim but certainly to great hilarity) in Brian Jones’ All-Tap Revue and Adam Bock’s Gayboy Nutcrackers.

From 1987 to 2005, Mr. Guy was the volunteer managing director and designer for Options, Rhode Island’s gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender monthly newsmagazine.

He presently lives in Warwick, RI and Provincetown, MA with his longtime partner, Padric Meagher.
